Mission Statement
Inspired by faith in Christ and the inherent dignity of every person, CAUSE seeks to alleviate poverty and injustice through long-term partnerships that empower communities to improve their quality of life.
Philosophy of Development
CAUSE Canada sees development as a process, not an end. To develop is to become, not to have. Development does not necessarily mean industrialization. One of CAUSE Canada’s preferred definitions for development relates to the unfolding of a people’s collective imagination in defining not only who they are, but also where they want to go. The key strategies for CAUSE Canada work are the following:
CAUSE Canada implements responsive, integrated community development in geographical regions where there is an under-representation of international assistance programs.
CAUSE Canada targets vulnerable and marginalized people as being the primary beneficiaries of its assistance and encourages them to participate and take full ownership of the projects that benefit them.
CAUSE Canada makes long-term commitments to work in rural areas of the developing world in order to address the alarming trend of urban migration.
CAUSE Canada emphasizes stewardship and environmental rejuvenation because a healthy environment is a cornerstone for building just and sustainable societies.
CAUSE Canada partners with local civil society groups from the developing world and endeavors to enhance their capacity to deliver effective, fiscally accountable, sustainable assistance programs.
