CAUSE Canada: Women's Empowerment Program, Year 1

1. Increased participation of women in leadership roles, including greater financial management responsibilities such as budgeting and saving.







2. Greater knowledge and improved hygiene and prevention practices implemented by women in regard to their own and their family’s health.







3. Increased sense of dignity and self-efficacy of women.







4. Community decisions take women’s viewpoints and concerns into account; more respect for women’s rights.







5. Improved health among women and families; less preventable illness, incapacity and death.







6. More effective financial management by women.







7. Increased household savings and asset accumulation by women.

Specifically, this means:







1. 40 women (200 women over 5 years) trained in leadership groups in 2008.







2. 40 women (200 women over 5 years) are given financial management training, and accumulate household savings in 2008.







3. 40 women are educated with regard to improved health practices in 2008 (200 women over five years).

Women are the primary caregivers for children and the household. They have enormous opportunity and potential to shape a constructive future for their children and communities. Promoting the leadership capacity of women, including their financial status, will yield major benefits for the health and well-being of these women and their children, families and communities.
